Overview

The primary goal of the BadCops(TM) police oversight portal is to provide the tools, research, resources, and news to help good cops, community leaders, victims, and other concerned citizens address the complex issue of police misconduct.  Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get up speed on police misconduct and police oversight so that more energy can be constructively invested on real progress.

What is a bad cop?

Bad cops are law enforcement employees that are not meeting job requirements.  Many of the employees who fall into this category are not bad people, but rather they just need quality oversight to keep them on the right path.

On one end of the spectrum, bad cops are criminals with badges.  On the other end of the spectrum, bad cops are employees who are not qualified for their jobs.  For example, they have difficulty authoring accurate police reports, they have difficulty keeping their personal biases at home, ...

Because almost every police department has good cops and bad cops

Reality is if this world was actually as most people think it is, we would not have police internal affairs departments and this web site would not exist.  Reality is that almost every police department has good cops and bad cops.  The problem is that many police departments refuse to acknowledge or proactively address the bad cops within their ranks.

We can believe there exists police departments that do not have a single bad cop; and conversely we can believe there exists police departments that do not have a single good cop.

What would you like to see added to this web site?

Within the context of police misconduct and police oversight education, what would you like to see added to this web site?  If there are any links that you think we should add, please let us know.  Tools that we explicitly do not want to add to this web site include databases of bad cops complaints and discussion forums, both of which we feel would distract us from our education focus.

Since this web site's founding in 2001, we've seen the positive impact that BadCops.org has had on police oversight and police misconduct, and the hundreds of thousands of people who have used our web site.  We continuously review our existing web site links, and search for new content and links to add to this web site.

Please send any feedback you may have to feedback@badcops.org.
